Opera Gala could have just as accurately been called A Lightning Tour Of Grand Opera, for this was a spirited journey through the most popular of operatic hits. Sound CheckWith Oliver GodfreyFROM: North London via East Herts WHO THEY: Paul Collins (vocals/guitar), Chrisy Cunningham (guitar), Tom Lewis (bass), Ry Davis (drums) SOUNDS LIKE: A roguish Paul Weller teaching Alex Turner some new licks WEBSITE: www.myspace.com/theknaves1 (17/07/2008) ALL OR NOTHING The Subways (album, Infectious) We once had a reporter who harboured a pathological hatred of The Subways: somewhat strange since everyone else found the listless Welwyn Garden City rockers far too bland to provoke any strong feelings, negative or otherwise. Their 2005 debut Young For Eternity was one of those albums you might have bought, listened to once, thought 'this is alright' and then never touched again. This Butch Vig-produced follow-up retains the charm of first album highlights such as No Goodbyes but, as a record, boasts much more energy and passion - and the storming riff on opener Girls & Boys is a fine testament to that. Perhaps rare for a second album, this marks genuine progress. (18/07/2008) Shining a light at the Marquee on way upBy Martin FordBands ready to Rock The PrioryBy Web Reporter |
