Rise in non-emergency 999 calls

News - AmbulancesEMERGENCY calls to the ambulance service have rocketed over the past five years - due to reports of minor problems. Figures show more than 10,000 extra 999 calls had been made requesting the county's crews between June 2003 and 2008 - a 30 per cent rise. Neil Storey, chief locality officer for the East of England Ambulance Service (EEAS), which covers Essex, said that while the number of people with serious problems had increased in line with an increasing and ageing population, the more significant rise was in people with more minor problems.
